The combination of the prolific Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard is an ingenious one. 「グラディエイター」

今や、完全に現代映画音楽界の最高峰に君臨する新時代の巨匠ハンス・ジマーの、新しい代表作。ジマーといえば勇ましい系ではやはり「バックドラフト」でしたが、これからはヒロイズム爆発で、かつ美しい、この「グラディエイター」でしょう。オーケストラから民族楽器からシンセサイザーまで、サントラに必要なサウンドはすべて詰め込んだかのような壮大なシンフォニー。そして、美しい天使のような声を披露するのは、「ヒート」「インサイダー」でサントラにも進出した、元デッド・カン・ダンスのヴォイス・パフォーマー、リサ・ジェラード。この後に「M:I-2」でも発揮される完璧なコンビネーションによるスコア・サントラの傑作。ラスト・クレジット"NOW WE ARE FREE"は涙無しでは聞けません。しかも、この盤スコア・サントラながらビルボード誌チャートでも長期にわたってランクインしていたヒット盤。壮大なサントラをお探しの方はまず、これから、の1枚。 (C)馬場敏裕
